Meeting Western Eyes: Comparisons, Receptions, Translations

Festschrift for Prof. Tatyana Stoicheva, D Litt

On her 70-th birthday

The Bulgarian Society for British Studies in association with the Department of English and American Studies at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and the Bulgarian Association of University Women invite colleagues and friends of Prof. Stoicheva to contribute papers to a collection of articles to honour her work and dedication as a scholar and teacher, as well as former President of BSBS and BAUW, and Chair of the Department of English and American Studies.

We welcome contributions in any areas she has been active in and where she has helped shape the Bulgarian and international scholarly environment: cultural studies, comparative literature, identity studies, particularly issues connected with placing Bulgarian national identity and nationalism in a European, and sometimes wider, context. Her pioneering work in introducing post-colonial theory to both research and teaching British studies in Bulgaria also deserves attention.

Of particular interest to this collection is the dual perspective: from Bulgaria to the West (or East, or the world, as the case may be) but, also – and of special importance – from the West, or the world, to Bulgaria. From travellers, missionaries, diplomats looking at Bulgaria to the (recent) Bulgarian diaspora gazing at the west.

Please send your paper as an attached file (Word 97-2003, Rich Text Format) to Ralitsa Muharska ralitsam@yahoo.com by 30 January 2017.
