Ownness and Foreignness, or Where the Mind Hovers: Dialogues in Literature, Language, and Culture
A Conference of the Department of English & American Studies at Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv
(As Part of the Annual Paisievi Dni at Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, Venue: Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, Plovdiv, 9 – 10 November 2017)
This international conference promises to turn into an intriguing crossroads of ideas – engendered and exchanged in interdisciplinary discussion amid a vast range of scholars from Bulgaria and abroad. For a number of years The Department of English & American Studies at Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv has been a regular contributor to this atmosphere of cultural exchange and excellence in academic achievement by organizing its own section. We will therefore welcome proposals in the following areas – as points of orientation, rather than rigorous restriction:
- Translation studies – linguistic & literary aspects
- Fantastic leaps – borderline issues in linguistics
- Literary transgressions – time, space and imagination
- Cross-cultural exchange – dialogues between British & American literature
- Challenges & innovations in teaching English – the school & the academic context
- Concealed provinces of the mind, or the uneasy trinity: author, reader and literary work in British and American literature
- Computational linguistics – the pulsations of an expanding field
- Hunting for the Past – memory as a cultural variable in English & American studies
- Postcolonial journeys – Englishness & Otherness
Deadline for sending proposals: 20 July 2017
