This year’s BSBS annual conference THE CONTEMPORARY NINETEENTH CENTURY will be held on 9-11 November 2012 and will be hosted by the South-West University, Blagoevgrad.
The issue this year is communication – literary, linguistic, cultural – across more than a hundred years. Which traces from the long past British age of progress are still vibrant? What are the possible forms and modes of its legacy to the here and now? And might it not contain a suspended piece of our future as well? Are some of its signs still waiting for their times? Or is it mostly obsolete, in a period of technological boom and declining stability of values?
A special objective on the part of this year’s BSBS conference is to mark the occasion of Charles Dickens’s 2012 bicentennial.
